Yesterday I rode Bart by myself for the first time in a long time, and while although Ive been feeling rather disconnected from the world because I dont have a phone, I was amazed to see how disconnected people are to the people that are RIGHT NEXT TO THEM because they DO have a phone. I would see couples sit down and immediately pull out their phones, probably having a more animated conversation on FB than in real life. I would see friends sit down next to each other and one would pull out their phone while the other sat there and twiddled their thumbs in silence. The Bart train was packed at one time, but so many people were fumbling with their phones that the car was almost silent. Yea, phones give us the feeling that were connected to the whole world, but then they also make us miss out on so many person-to-person interactions. I get my phone back today, but I dont want to become a slave to it. If were hanging out and I pull out my phone, slap me on the wrist.. Cause I wanna live a more rewarding life than one where my face is looking down at a screen all day.
