Yesterday I spent almost all day in Netherlands. I couldnt wait to take the train back to Brussels around 7 p.m. I was disturbed by the fact that I was hearing almost all the time one language: Dutch. I felt trapped and isolated. I asked myself if I wasnt exaggerating a bit. To miss your city after 10 hours thats a bit too much. And yet, I missed Brussels. The diversity of people and languages I see and hear around me makes me feel home. This diversity would never exist if there were no migrants, yesterday, today, tomorrow. I am thankful to each one of them for this. Today it is the International Day of Migrant. On this day there are many migrants facing hard time: exclusion, discrimination, racism, poverty…It doesnt matter what they do or achieve they are considered second-class citizens. I am a migrant and ooo so proud to be one. I dont consider myself second-class neither first-class citizen. Thanks to the enriching experiences (negative and positive ones) with people all over the world in Brussels I feel special. If you are a migrant take note you aint second-class, but special-class. If you arent a migrant but happens to know/meet one or more feel blessed you have special-class people around you. Open your world for them and enter their world and you will understand me better.
