Yesterday I started reading the book by Michael Fox "Looking up" He is a Parkinson patient for many years. I bought the book to give to my dear friend Raguzza, who was diagnosed with PD five years ago. What a spiritual inspiration Michael is! Raguzza, is at this point, beginning to look at the long term effects of this disease, letting go of denial, yet counting on his spiritual strength to carry him through. Same spiritual outlook that has inspired Michael Fox to carry on as wonderful human being and the founder of the Michael Fox Parkinson Disease Foundation of which I am part as a student, and observer participant. I also learned a lot from this book, as there are aspects of the daily routine that this this disease impacts that I have not thought about. Reading the descriptions by Michael, of how this disease impacts the most menial daily routines- of which Raguzza alludes every once in a while, but never makes a pity party of it - makes me admire him even more. I am no longer afraid for him. it is what it is. This road that is a spiritual path as each of us are where there are no failures, just lessons. For those who believe in the power of prayer, please keep him in your prayers, and for me, his willing and loving friend and companion in this path.
