Yesterday I was at a department store and there was a boy about 10 - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I was at a department store and there was a boy about 10 years old staring at the different colored and shaped water bottles and trying to decide which one to get (no, there were no rainbow colored ones or I would have bought one). At first he wanted to know which one held the most ounces. Then he thought about which one would break the easiest. Next, he thought about which ones only were good for water and which ones would be good for other drinks because of the shape of the opening and difficulty cleaning. I walked away before he made his final decision but that little fella made a real impression on me. I saw in him a future as a CEO or CFO. Even though he was not a CEO yet (or whatever he will become), he was developing the skills necessary for his destiny. A lot of folks I have known in my life have felt that God was calling them to do something great like be a pastor of a large affirming church, a music minister for a grand choir, an evangelist that fills stadiums, a television personality or a great author who pens the best seller of the week. Then, I look at their lives (and my own). God often speaks to our spirit that we have a great destiny but what step are we doing to develop the skills necessary to accomplish this? Small steps lead to greatness! In the Bible we read about David who honed his skills on lions and bears (1 Samuel 17:36) before he took on the giant, Goliath (a mighty warring giant that everyone was afraid to challenge). When the time came, he was ready and this step launched him into even greater things. In Genesis 37:6-7 we read, “He [Joseph] said to them [his brothers], ‘Please listen to this dream which I have had; for behold, we were binding sheaves in the field, and lo, my sheaf rose up and also stood erect; and behold, your sheaves gathered around and bowed down to my sheaf.’ God was giving him dreams to prepare him for his destiny as ruler over Egypt. Dreams are an excellent way to find out direction from God. Scientists say that we have 4-6 Rapid Eye Movement (REM) states during an eight-hour night of sleep and that each one of these REM state periods can have up to four dreams. That’s the possibility of 24 dreams a night! Keep a pen and paper by your bed and you can write them down before you forget them. Unfortunately, most people never live up to their full potential in God for lack of knowledge, for lack of diligence or for lack of obedience. Let’s think bigger, make bigger plans (according to the revealed will of God for our lives), and let’s exercise ourselves in the things it takes to get ready for the day they all come to fruition. Another way is to find a good prophet (or someone who operates in the prophetic) to pray for you. GLBT churches across the country are starting to rise up with people who can prophesy and authentic five-fold ministry prophets. “…Believe in the LORD your God, and you will be able to stand firm. Believe in his prophets, and you will succeed. (2 Chronicles 20:20). That’s 20:20 vision! Isaiah 55:8-9 ’For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways, ’declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways And My thoughts than your thoughts.’” Want to find out His thoughts? Read His love letter to us (the Bible). This is what he said to Jeremiah, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, And before you were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations. (Jer. 1:5). Find out what His plans are for you! “But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5).
