Yesterday, I was honored to join members of the International - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, I was honored to join members of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers to announce that 220 quality Hawaii jobs at the Kahului, Lihue, and Kona airports are being saved from outsourcing. After United Airlines announced its intentions to outsource jobs at 15 airports around the country in March, I wrote a letter to its CEO strongly urging the company to reconsider its outsourcing plans, met with executives at the airline to discuss ways forward, and secured support from my colleagues in the Senate. Over these past few months, I worked with IAM District Lodge 141 as they negotiated a new agreement with United that preserved the jobs at these three Hawaii airports. This agreement was a victory for the families of these union members and the communities where they live and work. Today, 220 people will be able to continue to support their families. This outcome was the result of a great team effort, and I was honored to be a part of it.
