Yesterday, I watched an elderly mans face turn to horror as he left a bar, so inebriated, in an attempt to find his car. His feet were heavy, and his mind was visibly only focused on the current fight with gravity.. I continued to watch as his facial expression changed when he reached the curb and realized that he did not have the motor skills necessary to make the 6 drop... And just like that, in the confusion of his screaming, I watched his face land flat on the newly paved parking lot. I ran to him as fast as I could. He fought me at first, in the midst of his delusions, but the moment I spoke and said; Please.. I just want to help you.., I could feel his body give in to the powerlessness that he felt. I spent nearly 10 minutes with him on the ground, wiping his blood away and trying to carry his dead weight-like body back to the curb while he repeatedly pleaded with me to not call the Cops. I dont want to call the Cops on you, Man. I just want to make sure you are okay, and that you are not trying to drive your car right now... I have Two DUIIs.. I know I am young, but please heed my Warning. Just then, two older men walked passed to see our struggle and offer their support. When I asked the Gentleman if there was someone I could call for him, the only word he could vomit from his mouth was Boggys. The Bar he had just left from. I asked the two men to stay by his side while I went for help, and ran as fast as I could to his suggested Friends for assistance. When I swung open the door and ran in, the look of terror instantly transferred from my face to the Bartenders as she asked without hesitation, Did something happen to that old man..? Yes. I told her. He was over-served, and he just cracked his face in the parking lot while trying to make it out to his car. My heart broke as I watched the paramedics take his vitals while he screamed; No! Please. Im not going with them! ...then this morning, I stepped out of my car just in time to hear the sounds of laughter, and watch 5 bearded Hipster Men at the River unload a school bus full of Children to run, swim, play, and teach them how to Canoe across stream. And once again, my heart was warm. ..In there lies my Hope for a new day.
