Yesterday I went to my Doctors office located in a suite adjoining - TopicsExpress

Yesterday I went to my Doctors office located in a suite adjoining a major hospital. I decided to take a different route via the hospital thinking this was quicker. I was there to have some very minor blood work done. l was met at the door by a transportation assistant with a wheel chair. He called my name and asked me to please sit in the wheelchair. I thought this was great customer service and perhaps I should use this entrance for future visits. He then wheeled me onto the elevator. While in the elevator people smiled and said hello. I returned the smiles and also said hello. I have not visited a hospital in many years and was truly unfamiliar with the new procedures and technology. Upon arrival at the 10th floor, the nurse asked my name and birth-date which I gladly told her. She then asked who came along with me. I told her no one. She asked if there was anyone I could call such as my next of kin. I thought this was very, very odd. Immediately my mind began to wonder, what kind of test is this. I sat in the wheel chair for about ten minutes while she attended to other patients. The nurse then asked me to repeat my name and birth-date, which I did. She put an I.D. bracelet on my arm and said she would be back momentarily. Upon her return she took my temperature and blood pressure simultaneously with the same apparatus . This procedure was very quick and is now all electronic. Being a former Medical Assistant, I thought this was really cool. The nurse even walked away during this procedure. Again when she returned, she asked if I was in pain, I replied no. She gave me a gown and asked me to put it on. I thought, Im only here for a simple blood test. Next she asked me to extend my arm. She quickly located a vein in my arm and inserted a port. I was then wheeled into another area. The nurse asked if I needed assistance getting onto the gurney, I said no. She gave me a blanket and adjusted my pillow. The last time I had blood drawn it took only a few minutes while I sat in a chair. Again I thought this was really good customer service. As I looked about the room I noticed a few other ladies on gurneys. Some were crying out, others were moaning and groaning. I thought to myself, this does look right nor does it sound right. When I had my annual physical at the beginning of the year it took the technician less than five minutes to draw my blood. Again I though I was well behind todays technology. Some of the ladies were still moaning and groaning. I called nurse Robin to reconfirm the blood work that I was to have done. She reiterated yes then ask if was now in pain and about how far apart were my contractions. Con-what...I said. Nurse Robin asked again. How far apart are your contractions? I told Nurse Robin to call President Obama right away so that he could hold a press conference on the front lawn of the White House. I said she should also call ABC, NBC, FOX, along with all of the other news broadcast stations because a MIRACLE WAS ABOUT TO TAKE PLACE in here today. I asked if she knew anything about the bible. She said she did. I asked if she knew the story of Mary the mother of Jesus. She said she had read it several times before. I asked if this was a new procedure, where a mature woman could give birth to a baby after a fifteen minute blood withdrawal procedure. I told Nurse Robin that I wasnt pregnant when I left home this morning, but with all of this new technology perhaps I was all wrong. I asked Nurse Robin if she had given me a miracle BABY PRODUCING drug when she inserted the port into my arm. She quickly grabbed my paperwork and looked it over again. It was then she realized my paperwork had been transposed with another ladys paperwork who had the same name. She apologized then quickly called Mark the transportation assistant who escorted me to the correct unit. My blood was drawn within five seconds after I arrived at the new unit. Boy oh boy, what a day, what a day. I needed a bottle of Aquafina which they gave me right away. I think Id better use the normal entrance to my physicians office and forget about blood withdrawals altogether.
