Yesterday Maryam Ghaemmaghami Scoble kidnapped me. Shes doing the same shortly, so Im struggling to finish off a bunch of emails and travel planning. Last night we were driving along HWY 1 between Santa Cruz and our home in Half Moon Bay (which is timely, because Highway1s demo day is tomorrow, thats the San Francisco-based hardware accelerator thats kicking out some awesome companies). If you can tell me how a Chinese company (owned by an Irish-born entrepreneur, hi Liam Casey) got the same name as my favorite highway, you know your supply chain companies well. Sorry I have to miss the demo day. Anyway, while driving along at about 60 miles per hour we noticed hundreds of pelicans flying nearly at the same speed. Wow, what a treat. Pulled over and shot some photos. These are great flying machines and they do a lot of teamwork finding the ultimate air. The first two or three birds work hard to find the best air, then everyone else follows, usually in a delta shape. At one point I said to Ryan, my son, look its a bird highway. I wonder if they all knew that the winds were favorable so took off down the coast? If so, how do they communicate without having the Internet? Tomorrow well be seen down in Carmel. Sorry if I havent answered your email yet. Im way behind and totally booked until almost September anyway.
