Yesterday Se’nnight during a temporary absence of Mr BIRCH, grocer of this town, and whilst his wife was sitting in an adjoining room, the shop was entered and a bag containing upwards of £10 in silver taken from a desk on the counter. Strong suspicion attached to the wife of a broom-dasher named CANNON and upon searching her house upwards of £7 of silver was found therein. She then confessed she had committed the robbery. On Friday she underwent a final examination before the mayor and magistrates at the town hall and was fully committed to gaol to take her trial at the next General sessions for this town. (A few days since the till of the counter of Mr LONG pawnbroker was robbed of between £1 and £4 in silver)(Cinque Ports Herald 19 Feb 1826 p.3 : “yesterday”) [sennight = seven nights before]
