I have panicked only once, at age 11, when a raccoon surprised me inside my tent on my first Boy Scout camp out. 2. The stupidest thing I ever did was to dump air while swinging back and forth beneath a “dash-one-bravo” parachute at the Lakehurst Naval Air Station. I was 18 years old. 3. Event #1 above served me well during Event #2 above. I kept my wits about me when I realized I had lost too much altitude and was going to land in the New Jersey Pine Barrens. The jump master chewed me out for messing up his parachute. 4. The Lord of the Rings was the most influential book I read as a child. 5. I like the idea of travel, but I don’t travel well. 6. I talk to my cat and my dog as though they understand me. Very often, they seem to. 7. I have a sarcastically cynical sense of humor which I can take too far. 8. I think the death penalty should be abolished. You can’t release a dead defendant who has been wrongly convicted. 9. I stole the Illudium Q-36 explosive space modulator from Marvin the Martian. Bugs Bunny was never there. 10. I think that Lee Harvey Oswald pulled the trigger, but E. Howard Hunt and Frank Sturgis were also arrested in Dallas that day, and Bernard Baker was on the grassy knoll. You connect the dots. Hint: Plumbers. 11. I think that strict liability is an underused legal theory. 12. I’m a liberal Republican. That makes little sense, I know. 13. I’m not very religious, but if the universe is truly infinite then it is possible for a being to evolve who is omniscient, omnipotent and immortal. 14. In my youth, I never thought that I would survive to middle age. I thought that it all would end in a nuclear war long before then. 15. If aliens ever came to Earth and asked me what to do to understand us better, I would tell them to listen to the Blues. It’s all there. 16. I own guns but I favor gun control. There are too many crazy people out there getting their hands on guns. 17. If I remove my glasses, the world blurs into an impressionist painting. I like that.
