Yesterday, about 5:30pm, I noticed a discharge date for Marty had been posted on the patient scheduling monitor. The date was a week too early so I made inquiries of the staff that was still around. No one knew anything. This morning, Martys doctor told me her understanding was the same as mine-- July 15. About an hour later, the monitor was changed to July 15. Thus ended the crisis of uncertainty. Marty didnt have anything scheduled until late morning so I signed her out and we went for a one hour walk in the flower gardens (I walked, pushing her wheelchair ). That set the stage. When her therapy was completed about 3:30, she wanted to get out of the brain injury unit, so I signed her out again and took her to the conservatory where we sat for 45 minutes. I didnt have the energy to do more than sit. We each had very comfortable chairs for relaxing. The girls gonna get spoiled, at this rate ! Tomorrow, the occupational therapist has it on her schedule to watch me put Marty, wheelchair and all, into the van and secure her for travel. Then, we can go places! Less than two weeks now to being discharged! Im not sure if my body has become aware of the timing and is demanding rest. Today, on the way back from lunch , I had to resist the urge to just sit down in the middle of the parking lot. The energy was just gone. Some other symptoms were telling me I was getting dehydrated, so I added a lot of water to my routine. Then, I remembered similar episodes the doctors diagnosed as allergies in Kentucky. Once, the state had to assign someone to drive me home from Frankfort (3 hours) because the nurse in the Capitol annex deemed me unfit to drive. So, whether dehydration, allergies or lack of sleep or a little of each, the next couple of weeks promise to be a challenge. I am thankful Alan will be helping me drive to Alabama and Sandy will be helping me with Marty for a few weeks! Two weeks ends the away from home phase and a whole new phase of recovery will begin. A little rest and some welcomed help and God will provide the means!
