Yesterday afternoon, I had the distinct privilege of visiting the Carolina Horse Park for the 63rd annual Stoneybrook Steeplechase. Experiencing the rich tradition and history of this premier competition venue, watching the most beautiful horses race to the finish line, and being entertained by the games, musicians, and over 10,000 community members--from toddlers to elders--made for an action filled, unforgettable day in our state! I was honored to be presented with a unit commemorative coin from the Fayetteville Independent Light Infantry Company-- the oldest Southern militia unit in continuous existence in the US that was formed in 1793 under the Militia Act signed by President George Washington. When learning that only 250 of these coins were made, I could hardly believe that I was receiving such a rare token. I will forever cherish this special gift. Thank you, Chuck Livingston, for inviting me as a special guest, for affording me the opportunity to sing the National Anthem, and appointing me to judge the infamous hat contest.
