Yesterday afternoon we received a call about a cat in very bad condition at a retail premises in Portlaoise. One of our volunteers went out but was unable to catch it. However she returned this morning and was able to catch the cat. It was taken to a vet and had to be put to sleep as it was so sick. Our volunteer was told that it had been around fr a while, trying to get into the shop for food. Could we please ask members of the public to inform us when they first see a sick animal, we cannot be available 24/7 but would try and get help for an animal in need as soon as possible. Animals suffer pain just the same as humans and deserve to be given help. If that lady had not rung us yesterday heaven knows how much longer that animal would have had to suffer.
