Yesterday and this morning my news feed is full of posts about 9/11 and those 3,000 deaths. Innocent people died and their families and friends are still grieving, will grieve the rest of their lives. Whats been conspicuous by its absence is any reference to the 150,000 to 200,000 deaths (whos counting?) of innocent Iraqis and Afghanis who have been killed in the U.S. wars. We are responsible for the deaths of at least fifty times as many people as died in the 9/11 attacks. Do we think only Americans die? Do we think only American families and friends grieve? Does the lack of any notice of this bother anyone besides me? We cant commemorate those deaths on a certain day because theyve taken place over eleven years. Eleven years of killing so many people, and with such pointless results.
