Yesterday, at #BCLIP event, we had an opportunity to hear Mayor - TopicsExpress

Yesterday, at #BCLIP event, we had an opportunity to hear Mayor Katte Sathyas version of #Mandur issue. What appeared from his speech is that theres no respite for Mandurians for another 6-8 months. The garbage dumping might stop after that and dissolving the existing garbage might take 18-20 months. BBMP has failed to punish the erring officials, contractors and other staff. Mayor said if they tighten the noose the officials bring castesim and other such harassments. The Mayor who represents one crore plus population is feeling powerless. He repeatedly stressed the need for citizens to participate in governance starting with Mandur issue. He invited citizens to take responsibility of schools, footpaths, lakes, parks and garbage segregation. This is what we were saying all these days. A good governance can happen only when citizens take active role. There are laws to include citizens in the decision making body. Elected representatives never bothered to implement them in true spirit. Ward committees were formed a year back only when court intervened. I approached my corporator to include my name in the committee. He didnt. He said some other time informally that if he includes people like me, we ask all kind of questions which he cannot answer. So he formed ward committee with people he knew. These elected representatives and other known circle have failed miserable in solving the Bangalores problems. The Mayor is not a powerful man, citizens are. What we do in bits and pieces is not enough. Its time we all have to synergise and work for our city. A world class Bangalore is possible if we all work together. Now, what can WE do for Mandur garbage issue?
