Yesterday at approximately 10am, Ossining FD was dispatched to a reported structure fire at 21 Edward St. (Across from Park School). Within minutes multiple units were responding, an update was given by PD of a reported basement fire. Upon the arrival of Engine 99 reports of smoke showing was relayed to responding Asst. Chief Scarduzio, at this point Chief Scarduzio then requested his 10-75 assignment be transmitted bringing a Firefighter Assist & Search Team from the Croton FD, Ossining EMS, and a deputy fire coordinator from Westchester County DES to the scene. Backfill coverage was requested from Millwood for an engine and a Tower Ladder from Sleepy Hollow to cover our district in the event of another emergency. During this time a working fire was confirmed as well by Engine 99 in which crews mounted an interior attack. While units were arriving on scene, the house electrical service for the fire building had broken free still charged with electricity landing on Tower Ladder 42 trapping the chauffeur inside. Con Ed electric was immediately requested with a rush to free the apparatus & operator. The power line landed next to the Tower arcing into the ground with line draping over the Rig. While this situation was taking place extinguishment of the fire continued which took some time due to the construction of the structure, the head start of the fire prior to Fd arrival, and the attachment of the exposure to the right of the fire building. The interior stairs were quickly compromised due to the high volume of fire present. Additional mutual aid from surrounding departments were requested from Briarcliff Manor, and Thornwood to the scene with additional stand-by coverage for our district by Pleasantville & Montrose. Engine 96 arriving as the 3rd due engine was initially advised to stand fast and await orders by command, shortly after this a 2nd water source by a hydrant on Edward and Everett was requested to be secured and laid up to Engine 99 to supply hand lines dowsing the flames. After pumping water for close to 4 hours the fire was extinguished and situation placed under control by Command which was turned over to Chief Jason Lorenz. We would like to thank all of the assistance by our mutual aid departments. The cause of the fire is still under investigation at this point.
