Yesterday evening a walk with Annaliza and Emelda around Marina - TopicsExpress

Yesterday evening a walk with Annaliza and Emelda around Marina Bay with a visit to the ArtScience museum where we saw Transporting Rituals a dance and lights piece by the Cambodian dancer, Chey Chankethya and Blake Shaws video paintings. Some thoughts on that soon on the blog. But first a walk round the very high-end shopping mall, The Shoppes (fancy some Balenciaga?) and a bite somewhere not too expensive. Apparently you could pay £40 for a pot of tea and a few bunlets here. After the performance we catch a laser display over the water, walk under the Three Towers, over the bridge and into the Gardens by the Bay. Although it is late and dark the air is still fiercely sultry. We have had two thunderstorms today. All this is recently reclaimed land. It was sea and swamp before. Marina Bay is the most spectacular part of Singapore in terms of modernity. City as spectacle, the ultimate circenses on an island of panem. I am dazzled by the mixture of razzmatazz, celebration and hubris. Its like having colour telly in 1950. Links to the blog once I have written it.
