Yesterday i took a bike ride and sat by the water a long time. Thinking, remembering. When i got back to the cottage Alice asked what i had been doing. I said, talking to my mother. She said, On the phone or . . talking to her? What a smart and deep woman. I said, both. I have talked to my mother several times a day since i have been down here. Both on the phone and in other ways. She wanted me to take a vacation because she knew i have been working hard and needed a break, including from the cold. I will be back in NY tomorrow nite and hopefully, will talk w her in person this weekend. i wonder what 2015 will bring for various loved ones. As i think about 2015, i wonder about where our social justice movements are going, about the violence and unrest and inequity in so many parts of the world, including in the US. I think about the goodness and the sadness of many of my friends. About my projects in process and ones yet to come. About how i can make more time for friends. And . . . I think about my mother.
