Yesterday in 2000 Children Of Bodom released the album Follow the Reaper\ Espoo,Finland Melodic Death/Power Metal Status:Active Years active: 1993-1997 (as Inearthed), 1997-present Children of Bodom is a Finnish band from the city of Espoo, near Helsinki. The name of the band comes from one of the most famous Finnish murder cases of all time. (The murdering of three teenagers one night at Lake Bodom back in the 60s.) Early Children of Bodom albums are inspired by classical music and death metal (Red Light in My Eyes pt. 1 starts with a line from J.S. Bachs Invention No.13 in A minor and Red Light in My Eyes pt. 2 includes selections from Mozarts 25th Symphony), and later albums are more inspired by a commercial thrash and hair metal, losing some of its earlier melodic style. A precise definition for their musical genre is discussed by fans and the specialized press alike, often discounting the influences of the band and the composition of songs. The lyrics of their songs are written in the English language and are often of a simplistic nature, dealing with the subjects of death and personal struggles. As the band grows in experience, so does their playing style. They seem to change one way or another with every album that gets released. Even the album cover arts seems to change as the band grows. They are now also hitting the mainstream part of metal, their name and style being more known now. COB continues to inspire many musicians alike and more join the COBHC everyday. The bridge in Bodom After Midnight is taken from the movie The Rock. There was a music video made for Everytime I Die Recorded and mixed at Abyss Studios, Sweden in August-September 2000. Produced by Peter Tagtgren, co-produced by Children of Bodom. Mastered at Finnvox Studios, Helsinki, Finland by Mika Count Jussila. Graphic design by King Sami Saramäki. Assistant photographer: J.S. Karjalainen. Band photographs by Toni Harkönen. All songs written and arranged by Alexi Laiho. The Nuclear Blast and Mystic Production releases of this album contain a different mix. The first mix was done by Peter Tägtgren in the Abyss studio soon after Follow The Reaper was recorded. It can be heard only on the Nuclear Blast releases (Europe & USA). Later on, the band wanted to change some small things and gave Follow The Reaper to the hands of Mikko Karmila who did some additional treatment for it. We call this the 2nd mix and it can be heard on the Spinefarm (Finland), Toys Factory (Japan), FONO (Russia/CIS-States) and One Music (South Korea) releases. But there arent any big changes. Biggest changes between Mix 1 and Mix 2: Follow The Reaper - 0:37 - 2nd mix has no scream, 1st mix does. Hate Me! - 2:58 - 1st mix has church bells, 2nd mix doesnt Northern Comfort - 1:43 - 1st mix has vocals here that where removed in the 2nd mix. Some melodies from the IneartheD (pre-Children of Bodom band) demo song Talking Of The Trees were re-used in Mask Of Sanity. Follow the Reaper is the third studio album by Finnish melodic death metal band Children of Bodom. This album continues the musical tradition of the previous album, Hatebreeder, only with a more straightforward direction. Much of the black metal and symphonic metal elements are present—mainly in the keyboards, vocals, and fast tempos—as well as a stronger emphasis on power metal. Many songs on the album became live setlist favorites, such as Everytime I Die, Hate Me!, and the title track. The song Mask Of Sanity is quite similar to the song Talking of the Trees from their early demo Shining (released as IneartheD youtube/watch?v=Stclc74HpNs
