Yesterday, in one of my classes, we had difficulty with two youths trying to bully and intimidate another, who has historically had difficulty paying attention in English anyway, and has butted heads with me a lot in the past, and has HUGE issues with ignoring instigation. While I called the bullies on their behaviors every time, it took a lot out of class. At the end of class, I complimented the boy whod stuck it out and got his work done. He looked at me as though Id grown Martian Antennae, and went to his next class. Today, he was sitting in an office chair, and he called me over. Pull my finger, he said cheerfully. I promise it is NOT an April Fools fart joke. I looked at him, then carefully took his finger and pulled. His other hand was on the office chair lever, and he sank down very low toward the carpet, grinning. I was enchanted. It was one of the first positive overtures hes made toward me, a silly joke. I laughed with delight, and hope that this marks a start to a continuing improvement in our interactions.
