Yesterday lightening hit my house. Unbelievably all my electronics ... TV, modems, DVR boxes, radios, computers ... were plugged in at the time and NONE had any damage. Neither did my AC unit, or any small appliances. Except ... my garage door opener died. I could smell something burning and walked into the garage and saw it smoking. And the plug was halfway pushed out of the electrical socket. Today I called a garage door opener place, and it would cost about 380 to replace the unit. But they suggested I test to see if the unit was really damaged, or was it just the electrical outlet. My neighbors brought over a drop cord and we tested ... voila! It worked. I just had to plug it into the 2nd of the two outlets up in the ceiling. Oh and fix the breaker. And push the door back onto the track (I had used the rope to open it manually and the bracket had slipped out of the track). This was a very good thing. Im really appreciative of my neighbors!
