Yesterday, my office received a number of inquiries regarding a report that there had been unusual radiation readings in the Mattituck area. We immediately followed up on the matter. The EPA indicated that none of their instruments detected anything out of the ordinary. Further, the Suffolk County Police Department assured us that the personnel they sent to the area to investigate the claims did not detect anything. This appears to be a case of a mistaken reading by a non-governmental entity and there is no cause for alarm. I have asked the EPA to keep me informed of any changes in the area.
