Yesterday on social media someone said, Its like throwing a party and then waiting for the people to show up. Well, it looks like Mother Nature decided to ONLY celebrate in New England. This storm was a HEADACHE from the very beginning! We always believed this Noreaster was going to be HUGE for areas to our north & east (there was no question New England would get hammered with this); but this storm simply did not materialize for our area. And believe me, we all take what we do very seriously and understand the importance of informing the public....This was just a TOUGH FORECAST and a HARD CALL! As, weve been saying since the inception of the area of low pressure, this storm had too many variables working against it, in order for this storm to blossom into a major storm. HERE ARE A FEW REASONS WHY THIS STORM UNDERACHIEVED FOR OUR AREA: 1. This storm system initially started out as a Clipper System. By nature, Clippers clip along from west to east. Once the storm developed offshore & turned coastal, it had very little time to strengthen. This would be a totally different story had this storm started well to our south...and gathered moisture from the Gulf Of Mexico & the Atlantic. IF that were the case, this storm would have the entire length of the Eastern Seaboard to develop into a significant storm for us....that would be a no-brainer! To the contrary, this storm had just a SMALL WINDOW OF OPPORTUNITY to: a) grow and b) throw back moisture westward! Thats a lot to ask out of this storm. 2. Our region, was on the western edge of this storm which would limit the amount of snowfall we see, especially as the storm is pulling away. 3. As early as Sunday, we informed the public that there was VERY LOW CONFIDENCE with this storm because of how it was developing. Yes, the storm still deepened; but it was too far to our east. This result was snowfall totals that were MUCH LOWER than anticipated. The potential for snow was there, but just not enough. We have a great team of Meteorologists at 6abc Action News & we do our very best. Sometimes, Mother Nature says, Im in control.
