Yesterday or the day before, there was another convention of the Maronite League dealing yet again with the issue of selling Christian lands.. Why do I find those useless litanies and hypocritical calls beyond nauseating ? Beside the segregationist and sectarian nature of those demands that I hugely reject and abhor, when it is simply a case of supply and demand..a basic economic rule! Besides that...If the Maronite Church and the Maronite League want to preserve the Christian Lands, let them 1st care about the economic well being of those Christians selling their lands to meet the demands of the daily life..when the opportunities of work are very limited, if not almost totally closed! Those Christians who want to provide a good education for their kids, will surely sell that land in the village to do so.. Let the Church and the League bring investments, fight and be a beacon against corruption, nepotism..put the land they own at the service of those Christians for them not to leave to greener pastures elsewhere.. Let the Christian schools, universities and hospitals admit poor Christians when they need their services and they cant afford it..for them not to be forced to sell their land.. And finally, to whose benefit are those calls and pressures not to sell the Christian land ?!?! That person who is selling 3000 m to pay for the tuition of his son or daughter is not changing the nature of the country..if anyone is, it would be those Christian millionaires buying and selling hundreds of thousands of meters, part of business or land speculation.. And those are precisely those who benefit from such calls: they buy Christian lands at a lower price, much lower price - and they will sell it to whoever pay the highest - regardless of his religion and nationality ! Those are the ones who benefit ! Not the average poor Christian.. And those Christian speculators happen to be also our politicians..and their families ! So enough ... Enough buying and selling in the name of those Christians..enough using and abusing them.. If there should be a reform, it should start with and in the Church itself!
