Yesterday the TV people here filmed me in regards to the sale of Telecom shares to be played on air either tonight or tomorrow night. I will be on my own. I will start by highlighting the fact that the sale of the 60% shares of Telecom Cook Islands Ltd has been designed by Telecom NZ so that it is almost impossible for the Cook Islands Government, Cook Islands Enterprises, incorporation or trust groups and individuals with adequate money to buy those shares. All foreign businesses has to come through BTIB to get the approval to do business here. Telecom Cook Islands Ltd have been in business with our government for many profitable years. Now Telecom is jumping ship by offering to sell their shares and they stipulated how their shares may be sold and under what conditions. When you jump ship you do not dictate how the ship should be run because you have left the boat altogether . We now are having a snap election. I and the people who are getting ready to buy some shares are demanding that the BTIB and its board must put a stop to the sales now until a new government has been elected into power. If you don`t you will always be the ones to be blamed for this mistake. Then I talk about the right to buy back 20% which one of our past governments sold some time ago to Telecom...today it is worth just over $7 million. We want to buy back this 20%. Then the government (care taker now) have plans to sell 20% of the governments (Cook Islands people) from the remaining 40%. We want to buy that too...if we the people can not buy these shares then are foreigners allowed . Any governments duty and responsibility is to its own people for their welfare and prosperity, FIRST AND FOREMOST Aroa Nui mike Tavioni
