Yesterday, there was a water main break on Tiffany Street. Tiffany Street will remain closed to through traffic from Gowey Street to Bremen Street for the immediate future due to today’s water main break. Due to the severity of the break, the roadway has sustained significant damage and has to be completely reconstructed. The extent of the work is from Groveland Street to the low point in the road just east of Bremen Street. The road will be closed to through traffic for the next 3-4 days. Detours around the immediate area have been set up. During the day the area closed to traffic will be expanded to allow for additional work. Detours have been put in place and access to surrounding roadways is available, however, we do advise motorists to avoid the area for the next few days if at all possible. The Department of Public Works is working with the Springfield Water and Sewer Commission on expediting the water main and roadway repairs and will continue to advise the public as to the status of the work. The City of Springfield is deeply appreciative of the patience and cooperation of the residents during this duration of time required to restore normalcy to both the water main and traffic flow.
