Yesterday was Assam Bandh, a general shutdown to protest Govt. inaction against killings at the Assam -Nagaland border. Villagers from Chapanala, Lungsung, Samasya Line, Borline, Jiajuri and Udmari decided to observe the holiday by planting elephant fodder at Hodhodi, another corridor in the degraded Karbi foothills habitat close to the Swang RF. Green Guard Nature Organization had launched the Community Elephant Fodder Plantation along with Human-Elephant Conflict affected communities along the Nagaon-Karbi Anglong border in 2013 and since than it has become very popular as villagers believe that decreasing instances of elephant intrusion is due to their efforts to appease the pachyderms.
