Yesterday was a long, long day with 7 or 8 appointments, I was grateful to have my friend Nancy Michaud with me to get me through some of the tense moments. Happily I am one year with no evidence of the disease and my right breast having no abnormalities. Officially the only part of me with no abnormalities. I am also officially participating in a 2 year clinical trial for a drug to be used in conjunction with my hormonal treatment. It is hoped that this drug combination will control the disease more effectively. As I looked around the waiting room I saw far too many young women. I am so worried for a couple of women that went through radiation at the same time as me. My friend in Florida whom has not had a confirmed recurrence but is going to have some additional testing. I know she will be okay, worry non the less. The person I am most concerned with is a young mom of three. She has had a confirmed recurrence and it breaks my heart. I know she is in the best of care but the cruelty with which this disease operates is unacceptable to me. A week ago I decided on a lark to sign up for a half marathon. Now it has become more. I am dedicating it to Leslie and Anne.. To all those who have preceded me and all those who come after me I am in this fight still. I will not quit. We will fight side by side. Each of us bringing light from the fire within stamping out the darkness of cancer. I love all of my friends and family regardless of where we find ourselves I always will.
