Yesterday we lost a loved one unexpectedly. Linda Hales, from Pearl, MS. Asking for special prayer today for my mom Margaret Walker Ponder and Aunt Sheila W Shows as they make arrangements and pick out something pretty to lay to rest this dear member of our family. Mom has been Lindas primary care giver for a long time, and the next few days will be very difficult for her. If you grew up in the Pearl Area, chances are that you knew Linda.. She made the best of the life she was given. She loved to tell jokes and make others laugh. Linda had recently been placed in a nursing home, and was adjusting. Growing up, she was a beautiful, outgoing, normal teenage girl, until one day around 15 years of age, her life drastically changed. Linda was involved in a car accident with friends, they were on their way to see a friend get baptized and had an encounter with a drunk driver. Linda was the only one who sustained severe injuries. The accident left her in a coma for several years and with extensive brain damage, and blind. She had the mind of a child, and for those who didnt know her story or her struggle, couldnt appreciate just how brave she really was. I dont think I ever met another soul that still continued to live life to the fullest, even though the life she dreamed of was taken away from her at such a young age. Linda worked closely with MADD for several years going to schools and telling her story. I took her a few times and to hear her tell it would make me cry every time. I was very close to her mother, our Nene and spent most of my summers and anytime I could with their family. Oh the stories Linda would tell :).. Linda introduced me to the movie Grease and my love for Elvis :).. She loved music, Pearl Day & going from store to store at McLaurin Mart. They took me on almost every vacation I can remember, once to the beach, almost all of Uncle BEs World War II reunions, and we would spend weeks at a time in Tennessee at Cumberland Mountain State Park. Linda loved people, and people loved her. Our family has great comfort in knowing that she now has a heavenly body, her sight has been restored and that she no longer has a damaged mind and body & is rejoicing with our precious NeNe in Heaven.
