Yesterday we went to see X-men. It was for the kids. But both me and Uma came back much more thrilled about the movie then the kids. The 3-D glasses at Cinemax were a disaster :- unclean, non-fitting, smudged and they dare to charge it as an additional fee in the ticket itself; the mall with 2 million people in the elevator only was a disaster; the parking lot with the 4376589832 cars to carry the 2 million people was a disaster; looked like we were going to a movie which will be a disaster. But the movie worked. The story was engaging and confusing. All the X-men and women were fantastic. Hugh Jackman continues to impress as wolverine and plays the major protagonist in the movie. Raven/Mystique was mysterious but cool. Patrick Stewart and Ian Mckellan were fully there in spirit though their onscreen presence was limited. The standout scene for me was the slow motion scene with Quicksilver. It is one of the best choreographed action scene that I have seen in a while. With the trick photography that is possible today, this scene made me realize again that it is the filmmaker and not the technology that makes it work - reminded me of the Terminator 2 (1991) scenes of the cyborg recovering after injury, flying and avoiding bullets Keanu Reeves from Matrix (1995) and the flying creatures in Avatar (2009). This scene is funny, on a grand scale, dramatic, special effects of the highest order, 3D used appropriately, just fantastic. and it lasts for all of 30 seconds! See it just for that scene.
