Yesterdays public talk by our speaker was stirring. He likened the belief we sometimes have that money will cure our problems, to that of the belief that a medication can cure an ongoing health condition. He used the example of a prescription medication commercial to illustrate. Most of us are familiar with the lot of them by now. Its marketed as a breakthrough drug that provides relief for a specific symptom or certain effects of an illness. Much to our confusion, at the end of the commercial as the Brother highlighted, there are like 30 side effects to taking the med. Some relief that is! Hmph. Last night my family and I took a walk down memory lane when this film came on. It reminded me of watching my mom zing by me every workday, dressed and tousled on her way to her 9 to 5 as a Secretary in Corporate America. So, Im glad to know from personal experience the moral that his illustration holds. Many do have to work traditional jobs/hours in order to relieve some of the financial pressures of life. Yet, an increasing number of us have seen fit to try to live in a way that affords us more time despite less money, though not necessarily a poorer quality of life. Rather, our lives are all the richer for having more left in our spiritual 401K than in our worldly bank accounts.(Matthew 6:33) I work...mostly to advance #KingdomInterests. Thats my 10-year plan to last 10 lifetimes. ;-)
