Yikes. I cant speak to Coachellas infrastructure or waste policies, but the next time someone says Shambhala is horrible for garbage; remember this picture. Waste management is something ALL festivals struggle with. And its not something they can tackle alone. We need the cooperation and participation of festival-goers like you. Please do your part to bring as little waste as possible to the event. Ditch single-use water bottles, glowsticks, coffee cups, etc and opt for reusable ones instead. Remove excess packaging before packing your car, and dispose of it appropriately (ie; recycle the box your tent came in, etc). Personally, I always recycle boxes for cereal, granola bars, etc ahead of time. Keep your camp clean throughout the festival. Take trash and recyclables to collection points regularly. And remember to pick up bits of trash you see on the festival grounds during the festival, from sequins, to the flimsy plastic wrap from cigarettes, to butts. We are all in this together. If we all accept our own responsibility for the part we play in the production of waste at festivals (and in the world in general), and do the best we can to mitigate that, we can create a more beautiful festival community for all of us. 2014 festival season has only just begun, lovelies. Lets do this.
