Yknow - in the comments sections of our posts the type of debate - TopicsExpress

Yknow - in the comments sections of our posts the type of debate we very often get involved with is with those who label themselves as anarchists that seem upset with us because we generally advocate for some amount of limited government (aka minarchy) here. While I can often really enjoy debates on the nuances of political science for their own sake - I was just reflecting that in some ways these discussions are often like heated battles over what the best color a unicorn should be. I like purple unicorns - they like pink ones - or maybe thats visa versa - but regardless of the endless stream of words being exchanged while it is not likely we will change each others opinions ever - we also are not going to have these mythical creatures suddenly appear on our front door steps to fly us around to where we want to go regardless of what we type. Still - I think our interest in unicorns - that is seeing a society come about where individual rights are protected, and where people are allowed to determine their own actions as long as these actions do not violate others rights - is still a shared thing - regardless of what color either of us insist the unicorn should have. And in some ways both a truly limited government that optimally protects the individual rights of all of its citizens - AND/OR a society whose prevailing paradigm is anarchy as envisioned by the likes of anarcho-capitalists or voluntaryists - are sadly today both mythical creatures given the vast majority of the worlds statist status quo. But putting all silly metaphors aside - the current realities are that there are in fact acts that we CAN do that can make our own and others lives better - and that these more often than not effect changes in small and incremental ways. For me - if I can do something which allows non-violent non-criminal people to retain their freedoms instead of being incarcerated - or that could keep our government from bombing people half way around the globe that pose no real threat to any US citizens actual security - I am going to do it. And Im all for others doing whatever path they choose towards working for similar goals as well. Guess the point is - I think itd indeed be a better world if more of us focused on doing actions that actually effect peoples lives for the better (in terms of enabling greater liberty and prosperity for them) - rather than spending that same energy endlessly debating what our favorite color for a unicorn is. - Steve B. youtu.be/Fu2DcHzokew
