Yonkers Assembly… Today we went up the Hudson River, past - TopicsExpress

Yonkers Assembly… Today we went up the Hudson River, past Manhattan, to a lovely little place I’ve never been to before, Yonkers… New Yorkers call it “up-state”, but Yonkers’ residents laugh at that – After all, Southern Yonkers is on the NYC metro line. The building’s boiler had broken and there was not an ounce of heat in the entire place. We had arrived home from our Brooklyn Gym experience the night (morning of) before at 5am and were awoken at 8am by the youth pastor from Yonkers. I nearly died when I saw him. I did my usual screaming session and within five minutes, everyone was sitting groggily in the car. I tried to make small talk, but am sure I asked for his name 5 times, asked what he did 4 times, asked if he’d been married 3 times 3 times, fell asleep twice, lost it with the kids once and kept my mouth shut zero times. Aben has hurt his leg and so he was out for the count. We trotted into the massive building and performed for the Yonkers Christian School. It was great, and the kids were WAY into it. I loved hanging out with these students, kids mostly from the Dominican Republic and Puerto Rico. However, I could tell my tired troupe were on auto-pilot and not giving an ounce of themselves (except for Jonny, who may have come across as an over-actor, because he always gives his best, and in comparison to the others, he was alive…). After the performance, at about 10:30am, I put everyone to bed for an hour. I sat in the only warm room in the house, the cafeteria. I had my laptop open and my mobile (cell) phone to my ear (calling pastors). I looked out and soaked in the view – the Hudson River, with loads of Autumn attired trees smiling at me from the New Jersey side of the rio…). BREATHTAKING! I got the grumpions up for lunch at 11:30am. We had fish sticks and rice/beans for lunch. I thought “yucko” before taking a bite, but we hadn’t had dinner, nor breakfast, and so I swallowed the plate whole. DELICIOUS! It was possibly one of our troupe’s most memorable meals in the entire journey. Sezni slept through the entire sitting and came racing in at about 2pm. “Where’s my dinner?” he asked. “I’ve eaten it” I replied without looking up. He started grabbing at my t-shirt, “take off your shirt, TAKE OFF YOUR SHIRT, I wanna see whose got BIGGER PECS!!!” I really don’t know where he gets these lines from, and I was most certainly not going to take off my shirt in an Assemblies of God school in Yonkers, New York. Besides, I don’t think I need to take off my shirt to work out that equation between he and I. The winner TAKES IT ALL!!! Sat and chatted for several hours in the afternoon with two teachers from the school. Each of them Latino, from the D.R. and Puerto Rico. It was like old times for me, sitting around, chatting education stuff. They were also keen-as to learn about our ministry and the nuts & bolts of life in Nicaragua. It was just a really God-filled, relaxing time… We lead worship and performed CREATED in the evening. Latinos, I love ‘em. Dancing in their seats they were… Awesome time. I honestly CANNOT WAIT to come back to the pumping little city of Yonkers.
