You Yangs MTB Inc - Media Release - 26/09/2013 Cressy Descent Update You Yangs MTB Inc would like to thank all competitors for their understanding and support following the incidents that occurred on Sunday at the club’s annual “Cressy Descent” event that resulted in the cancellation of any further racing. The club committee member’s immediate focus was on the injured riders and ensuring they would all make a full recovery as well as ensuring the wellbeing of those involved in the response to the incidents. We are relieved that everyone is on the mend and hope to see you all on your bikes again soon. All MTB riders accept the sport can be dangerous and when people get injured everyone is very quick to get behind fellow riders and support them so they can get back on their bike as quick as possible. The committee has discussed various options since the weekend and decided that we will not be issuing any refunds and no times will be published for any riders that had completed their race run. We believe the majority of riders received value for money up until the unfortunate incidents. In keeping with the caring and generous spirit of the MTB community, You Yangs MTB Inc have decided to make the following donations on behalf of all competitors at the event: $2250 to the Heart Foundation $2250 to Michael Blyth What happened to Shawn on Sunday is a real reminder to everyone that heart attacks can happen to anyone anywhere. The purpose of the Heart Foundation “is to reduce premature death and suffering from heart, stroke and blood vessel disease in Australia.” You Yangs MTB Inc are proud to make this donation to the Heart Foundation to assist them to continue their lifesaving research and health education work. heartfoundation.org.au/Pages/default.aspx Michael Blyth is a passionate Mountain Bike rider who suffered a horrific spinal injury whilst mountain biking with mates in Sunbury back in May. The accident resulted in paralysis from the abdomen down. Michael is currently undergoing extensive rehabilitation to learn how to adapt to like in a wheelchair. Michael’s spirit & positivity should be an inspiration to everyone to live every day to its fullest. You Yangs MTB Inc hopes this donation will help make a difference in the lives of the entire Blyth family. michaelblyth.au/ “Cressy Descent” will be back in 2014 bigger and better than ever. Until then respect the trails and ride within your limits. You Yangs MTB Inc Committee Members
