You are invited to participate in the Sitka Economic Innovation Forum on September 30th. The Forum starts at 3:00pm next Tuesday in the auditorium of Harrigan Centennial Hall. Economic Innovation is: • Driven by ideas • Focused on industry clusters • Built on regional assets • Based on networking and collaboration • Developing targeted workforce training Bring your ideas to the forum that are: Specific: Be as specific as possible by bringing your idea down to a size where you can identify specific actions to take in order to achieve a positive result. Realistic: Base your ideas on existing assets and the limitations of the community and the region. Achievable within two years: Break larger ideas down into stages that can be accomplished within a two-year time frame. A good idea is one that will be able to achieve positive results in the near-term inspiring people to take action and work on developing the idea. Focused on innovation: Innovation is the act of making changes, including introducing new ideas and new ways of doing things. Related to the foundations of economic development: Your idea should do at least one of the following: • Bring new money into the local economy? • Keep money circulating in the local economy longer by reducing leakage? • Create new jobs locally? • Increase productivity? • Improve efficiency and/or reduce costs? • Increase private investment? • Increase the local tax base to support government services?
