You are invited to visit our new website, blackpolitics.org . Launched at the end of Black History Month 2014, the site’s purpose is to aggregate, from multiple sources, historical and contemporary materials about the recent and extended history of African American politics and issues in the US. By assembling in one place a vast cross-section of content dealing with Black politics, we hope to make it easy for our visitors to research and discuss this topic. One of our goals is to have Black history inform the present. From time to time, we intend to ask our visitors to act on issues of importance to the African American community. In so doing, we hope to build, over time, an African American grassroots advocacy center to address issues of particular concern to the Black community. In today’s increasingly diverse society, sometimes the unique interests of African Americans are increasingly neglected or overlooked. Currently, we are asking visitors to take action on two issues: 1. Force a US Senate vote on the nomination of civil rights attorney Debo Adegbile to the post of Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights. 2. Support African American students at Temple University in Philadelphia in their call for reinstatement of Black Studies professors Maxwell Stanford and Tony Monteiro. Visitors are encouraged to submit their own original material or sources for consideration.
