You brood of vipers, how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks what the heart is full of. Their throat is an open sepulcher; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: Thy tongue deviseth mischiefs; like a sharp rasor, working deceitfully. But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. For when they speak great swellingwords of vanity, they allure through the lusts of the flesh, through muchwantonness, those that were clean escaped from them who live in error. Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification. Let no corrupt communication proceed out of your mouth, but that which is good to the use of edifying, that it may minister grace unto the hearers. Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body. For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ: Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
