You could be forgiven for thinking that the late great Tony Benn is talking about the Britain of today! When in actual fact this clip is almost 30 years old but yet the exact same issues that affected ordinary people then are still affecting us now. Nothing has changed even after we had over a decade of New Labour in power. So dont let anybody try to dupe you into thinking that this Labour party of today are any different whatsoever to their Thatcherite counterparts. Thatcher set this vile individualistic, rampantly neoliberal benchmark and BOTH main parties strive to sustain her ideological model. It was deliberately divisive, it took power from the people and placed it into the hands of a wealthy few, and was rotten to its core when she inflicted it upon the nation... and today that same deliberately divisive, profit before people, rotten to its very core model is still being inflicted upon the people by Conservative and Labour alike. Understand this. Understand that you no longer have a mainstream alternative to extreme Conservatism. What you have is Conservatives with a blue tie and Conservatives with a red tie. The country has been railroaded into a one-party state offering nothing in the way of democracy other than an illusion of it. We have allowed ourselves to be blindly led to this eventuality. It can be hard to come to such a realisation when youve believed in Labour all your life; but we each must be aware of the reality even if you then choose to be apathetic towards it. At the very least do your intellect justice and acknowledge what has happened to this country, even if it hurts. Its the only hope any of us have of ever doing something about it. And besides, its always better to be slapped with the truth than kissed with a lie.
