You dont brace for this - you knuckle down and see to it that the kids eat while you eat less. Why are we so dedicated in this country to punishing all those who have less, who are poor, who constantly struggle to survive while the fat cats in DC and those who pay to keep them there are awash in arrogance and self importance. I think it time to demand that anyone running for federal office have to take and pass courses in Civics, the Constitution, and spend 6 months volunteering at shelters, food banks, DES offices, clinics where they will be exposed to and be involved with those who depend on our government to survive. Perhaps they, like I, will begin to understand that the majority of the poor do work, do want to do better but are kept down by a system which instead of rewarding those who get a job and report that new income to their case workers, punish them by immediately canceling all benefits including subsidized housing/rent assistance, food stamps, welfare. How can you get ahead if you have been living without savings or adequate income and you get a job but before you bring home the first paycheck, you find yourself on the street? No wonder people just give up!
