You know those people who say immigrants ought to be able to speak English up to a certain standard in order to be allowed here? Well, I think thats fine as long as people born here are held to a similar condition. Who decides how much English is enough, though? Me, obviously. Actually, I dont agree that everyone should have to speak English to live in England. Plenty of other countries have more than one language community. Britain isnt a household; theres no such actual thing as British Culture. We encourage the speaking of Welsh within Britain, so why not Punjabi and Latvian too?
