You know, when you think about it, there are a lot of parallels between the Ramayana and the Iliad: Both are stories of kings going to war to reclaim their queens. Both take years before you get to the main action. In both there are seemingly impossible barriers to overcome to reach the enemy: the wall that surrounds Troy and the sea that must be crossed (with a floating stone bridge) to reach Lanka. In both, there is a series of duels in which many great warriors die before the main protagonists take the field. In the end, both Troy and Lanka fall. The greatest difference is how the restored queens are treated by their husbands. Ironically, it is the one who fell in love with another man and ran away with him of her own will that gets taken back, no questions asked.
