You may have seen media reports today that Major-General Orme will lead Australia’s military mission in Iraq to put an end to Islamic State terrorist. I was fortunate enough to meet Major-General Orme when I visited the UAE and Afghanistan in May. Australians can be confident that his extensive and well respected service to Australia’s Defence Force make him an outstanding choice on this important mission. I remember fondly my discussions with major-General Orme about Australia’s relationship with China and his encouragement that I read Robert Kaplan’s ‘Asia’s Cauldron’. It’s a fantastic and easy read, and if you are interested I encourage you to get a copy.
