You may wonder .... Why was Baristas Coffee House open on Thanksgiving? It should be a day for spending time with friends and family, not about money! Well, the difference between a business in a small town coffee shop and the big retail world is this: Everyone that came through the door or the drive thru today was on a familiar face - (except for the out-of-towners that parked sideways in the drive thru under the no parking sign ... haha, no worries, youre new here ..... ) Early this morning there was a table of hard working people enjoying a day off and sitting down for awhile to have some good laughs - and they made me laugh, too - (the Terry and Larry show attracts an audience that ends up sitting down to hear some good jokes and chicken stories). Everyone that was here was thankful that the doors were open and thankful to give me a couple of bucks so they didnt have to brew their own coffee this morning. There were no stampedes, and no one pushed anyone aside to get what they wanted. No one told me I had to work today to make some big corporation a profit on cheap plastic junk made in China. I was here voluntarily to enjoy a few hours wishing Happy Thanksgiving to friends who are like family, and to give treats to thankful puppies like Rudy the Basset Hound on his morning walk who has trouble reaching the drive up window with his adorable little legs. I truly enjoyed being at work today. Now Im closing up and driving a car that runs to a cozy warm house in the country so that I enjoy a nice meal and relaxing time with people and pets that will be happy to see me when I get home. They even put the turkey in the oven for me. All of this and more is what Im thankful for today. Happy Thanksgiving ~ Elizabeth
