You should watch this video. The man whom the officers shoot was clearly unstable. Excessive is a subjective term, but firing 10 shots at this man is excessive to me. It brings up many questions. Are police trained to make sure that if they fire their weapon the target is killed? Has experience taught police that a man must be fired at repeatedly on the ground after being initially shot? Is it too dangerous for police to wound a man and wait a few moments to see if he is no longer a threat? I have empathy for the police, mainly because friends from my youth have become police officers and I know them to be among the people Ive known. (Ive also met horribly offensive police officers, whose racism and false bravado was hard to stomach. But I dont assume all police officers are like that.) I do not think there is any other career where a poor decision in the workplace can result in killing a human being with your weapon. But... How strange a world is this that I find myself thinking, Cant they shoot him once or twice, watch him fall to the ground, and then see what he does before firing 8 to 9 more bullets into him?
