You think #Rohingya identity is a recent invention? Think again. That is an argument which draws on British colonial era fixed racial categories, which were then prevailing but now, in the post-Holocaust era, considered to be based on the out-dated “pseudo-science of race.” Whether Rohingya identity is only 60 years old or 600 years old should not – and does not matter. What matters, is that Rohingya have the right to self-identity and that their identity, officially recognized by the post-independence Burmese governments, continues to be destroyed under the quasi-civilian government of President Thein Sein.
