You will never ascend the mountain of internal peace if you govern yourself according to your own will. This self nature of your soul - values, judgments, desires - must be conquered by obedience or surrender. It has been said, It would be better that you gather dung by obedience than be caught up into the third heaven by your own will. True obedience is voluntary (never engage obedience if there is fear), pure (no personal gain), blind (no judgments) and cheerful (without inward resentment); but most importantly it must be internal.
