Young Papua New Guinea street artists today joined renowned Melbourne-based artist, Regan Tamanui (known as Ha-Ha) for a workshop at the Moresby Arts Theatre. The Australian High Commission invited Regan Tamanui to PNG for Australia Week to share his unique stencil-based techniques with PNG street artists. Regan uses multi-layered stenscils of up to 40 layers to reflect popular culture, sourcing images direct from the newspaper or from photographing the subject to tell a story of the here and now. The young street artists will join Regan in creating public artwork on a wall along Waigani Drive. Regan is a self-taught artist who started off by spray painting stencils on the street and has since then graduated to the gallery. He has been exhibiting for over eight years. He has held 10 solo shows and is represented by 3 commercial galleries across Australia.
