Young mother of five dead after shooting on Dan Ryan CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A South Side mother of five was shot and killed in an apparent drive-by shooting early Wednesday on the Dan Ryan Expressway — less than a year after a younger brother died the same way, family of the dead woman said. Family identified the woman as Jasmine Curry, in what Illinois State Police called “an isolated incident.” “She was a sweet person, she was kind, outgoing,” said Curry’s cousin, Ieshia Curry, 19. “She would do anything for anybody.” Ieshia Curry said her cousin was due to start a new job at a clothing store on Wednesday. Shots were fired about 4 a.m. at a Dodge Caravan, traveling in the southbound lanes of the Dan Ryan somewhere between 55th and 59th street, police said. Three people were inside the minivan at the time, with two of them escaping uninjured, police said. The minivan belonged to Curry, and she often used it to take her children to school and daycare, her cousin said. Police were still interviewing witnesses and checking footage from surveillance cameras in the area early Wednesday, State Police Capt. Luis Gutierrez said. Southbound local lanes of the highway were still closed at 43rd, with all traffic being diverted to the express lanes, state police said. It was not immediately clear when all lanes would reopen. State Police are working with the Chicago Police Department to try to find any other vehicles involved in the altercation. Ieshia Curry said the family is still recovering from the loss of Jasmine Curry’s younger brother, was shot and killed in a drive-by slaying in another location last year. “Everyone was messed up about it,” Ieshia Curry said. The Cook County Medical Examiner’s office could not immediately confirm the death Wednesday morning.
