Your Authentic Self I was listening to an interview and the - TopicsExpress

Your Authentic Self I was listening to an interview and the question of reputation versus character was being questioned. In simple terms, reputation is defined as the way others see you and character is the way one thinks, feels or behave. Being your authentic self means that what others see and who you are as a person are indistinguishable. Why do we put so much emphasis on “keeping up appearances” in our society? In listening to another interview, I think the highest compliment that was given to the interviewee is that she is the same person regardless of the situation, not to be confused with the roles that we have to occupy. Those who know her well see and experience the same person when she is being interviewed after giving a concert or when she is hanging out with friends and family. Do you have a conflict with the persona that you show to the outside world and the person that you feel you really are? Do you feel the need to create a persona to satisfy others? How do you be you become your authentic self? I am not saying that becoming your authentic self is an easy task but I challenge you with one place to start. Have an opinion…first about the things that impact your life. You might come to a place where it becomes a reality that you do not know what is important or impactful to your life and have to define that first. Whether you voice it or not…have an opinion, your voice will come. “As a man think in his heart, so is he” and yes I am paraphrasing but you understand. This is a good place to start in getting back to you or discovering your authentic self. Ylonda Ray, MS leadership Development Psychology & Professional Mentoring
